The STM32MP1 is our first series of microprocessors (MPU) and we offer STM3MP1 workshop to help you take advantage of it. The new device is our first Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) as it combines one or two Cortex®-A7 cores alongside a Cortex-M4, thus inaugurating the use of a Cortex-A in an STM32 product.
What Is the STM32MP1
The STM32MP1, with its mainlined open-source Linux distribution, offers a complete set of digital and analog peripherals as well as powerful security features. It is part of a rich development ecosystem and offers an optional 3D Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) for HMI development. High-feature integration, packages compatible with low-cost PCB technologies (down to four-layer plated-through hole PCBs), a dedicated Power Management IC (PMIC) and ST’s 10-year longevity commitment will allow engineers to reduce the Bill Of Material (BOM). It comes with many additional resources including the STM32Cube firmware and embedded software libraries for Cortex-M4 core.

Engineers familiar with embedded systems will enjoy the presence of an MCU, more precisely a Cortex-M4, with all its I/Os, hardware features, and software tools. This feature is essential because it means engineers do not have to relearn everything but can rely on their current expertise in embedded systems for a large part of the creation process. They will also have more time to work on the Cortex-A7 side of the STM32MP1 and the fact that the component offers a graphics accelerator with OpenGL ES 2.0 interface, and an optional crypto-core. Hence, one of the STM32MP1’s biggest strengths is its silicon design which combines an STM32 Cortex-M MCU with one or two Cortex-A7 cores. Overall, engineers can look forward to working with the STM32MP1 for its flexibility, accessibility, and the STM32 ecosystem around it. STM32MP1 microprocessor hands-on workshop for developers
We have organized a series of hands-on workshops on the high-performance STM32MP1 microprocessor across Europe for engineers who are already familiar with embedded Linux development.
Why attend?
After providing simple examples of embedded software solutions taking advantage of the customizable boot chain and kernel pin multiplexing, workshop attendees will benefit from practical training on the Cortex-M4 and Cortex-A7 (Linux) cores and get an overview of the PCB design principles. This is particularly important because working with an MPU means that engineers must add RAM, power management devices, and storage onto the PCB. Contrary to MCUs, these components are not integrated with the processor. On one hand, this enables more powerful and efficient designs that can tailor to very particular needs. On the other hand, it demands that engineers spend more time on the layout. The STM32MP1 also offers mappable peripherals to facilitate the use of multiple external components and the workshop will thus show engineers how to use such feature to benefit from the architecture’s flexibility.
