In these days (June 11-14) we are in Paris at VivaTech 2025, one of Europe’s largest tech annual events, which brings together startups, investors, industry leaders, and innovators from around the world. We attend the event as part of the Software République, a collaborative ecosystem dedicated to advancing smart, secure, and sustainable mobility.
Software République participates in the event for the third time, presenting “Vision 4Rescue“, a project to enhance efficiency, security and resilience in emergency situations. This solution includes several pieces of equipment, where ST contributes with key electronic components. These include sensors, edge AI, and energy-related technologies, which play a vital role for improving the effectiveness of emergency responses.
Software République’s commitment
The Software République (SWR) is a European ecosystem founded in 2021 by seven major partners (Atos, Dassault Systèmes, JCDecaux, Orange, Renault Group, STMicroelectronics, and Thales) to drive smart, secure, and sustainable mobility. It focuses on developing innovative solutions to address the challenges of connected vehicles, smart cities, and energy management. Thanks to the expertise of companies and startups, this ecosystem brings products and services to market, aiming to make Europe a central hub for future mobility.
Vision 4Rescue and STMicroelectronics contribution

Vision 4Rescue is a project designed by the seven partners of SWR, including ST, to transform the efficiency and coordination of emergency services. Developed in collaboration with three units of the Sapeurs-Pompiers (French firefighter units) and four tech innovators – Parrot, HawAI.tech, Peripheral, and Green Communications – the project is a game-changer for tackling natural disasters and urban accidents.
By integrating advanced systems such as electric vehicles (e.g.: the Renault 4 E-Tech), drones and connected urban furniture, Vision 4Rescue aims to:
- Anticipate emergency situations through multi-source data analysis.
- Act more effectively at every stage of the emergency and rescue intervention, with tailored accessible, and integrated devices.
- Enhance communication within rescue teams and between rescue teams and the public.

As a founding member of the Software République, STMicroelectronics helps drive these innovations with advanced sensors and edge AI technologies. From urban infrastructure to forests and waterways, ST’s components detect anomalies process data in real-time, and ensure local and secure data handling for reduced latency and faster response times. Additionally, ST’s energy-efficient solutions extend device autonomy, ensuring sustainability and reliability in critical moments.
Sensors for responsiveness and precision
During emergency situations, speed and precision are essential. ST’s advanced sensors empower rescuers to see, evaluate and respond in critical situations, even in challenging conditions like darkness or smoke-filled environments. LiDAR and camera sensors provide rescuers with a real-time 3D understanding of their surroundings, improving the ability to track movements accurately. The ISM330IS (6-axis IMU) enhances motion detection capabilities, while the Teseo VI+ delivers precise navigation in the emergency area. These technologies enable rescuers to locate potential victims, identify hazards, and map fire zones along with their progression.
Edge AI for fast and smart decisions
Capturing data is only the first step – it must be processed quickly and locally. That’s where edge AI comes in, bringing intelligence to the field, right where it’s needed most. By embedding artificial intelligence directly into equipment, real-time analysis is possible without relying on cloud data transfer. This means zero latency, reduced energy consumption, and allows emergency teams to respond faster and with greater autonomy.
For example, a drone equipped with the VL53L9 LiDAR sensor can rapidly detect a heat signature, assess the situation, and issue alerts. Powered by the STM32N6 microcontroller with an integrated AI accelerator and the STM32 Edge AI Suite for seamless AI deployment, the system reacts immediately to emerging risks. Additionally, the VD66GY compact embedded camera captures high-quality images, providing emergency teams with critical insights to better assess and respond to unfolding situations.

Energy optimization for effective intervention
Reliable energy is essential for mission success, whether it’s extending battery life or providing high power to engines. ST’s power management technologies and ultra-low power microcontrollers, such as the STM32U3, enable vehicles, drones, and systems to operate smarter, go farther, and last longer.
In electric vehicles, these technologies play a key role in managing battery energy, optimizing charging processes, and powering electric motors. Additionally, silicon carbide and gallium nitride-based components enhance energy efficiency, allowing devices to lift heavier loads, and extend their range. This enables equipment to perform more complex tasks, such as transporting medical equipment and supplies during an emergency situation, significantly boosting their effectiveness
Vision 4Rescue demonstrates STMicroelectronics’ commitment to technology that increases public safety and well-being. By integrating ST’s cutting-edge solutions – such as sensors, edge AI, energy-efficient technologies and power management systems – we empower emergency teams to respond faster, operate more safely and act with greater precision and autonomy. This project highlights the power of collaboration within the Software République to address critical challenges and protect the population, but also urban and natural environments.
