ST will lead more than half of the time allotted to talks and presentations at the sixth Compelfest conference that will take place from January 22 to January 25, 2019, in Moscow, Russia. It is thus an excellent opportunity to delve into the most prominent industry event for the region, which also demonstrates in a very practical way our commitment to reach local companies and bring our expertise and engineers to the organizations that form this vibrant community. This conference also highlights the evolutions currently underway in the Russian market that are bringing cloud technologies to consumers and making the Internet of Things a more significant part of everyday lives thanks to the increasing popularity of our STM32 microcontrollers (MCU) and Open Development Environment.
Compelfest or Understanding the Russian Market
ST is one of the major exhibitors at Compelfest because of our dedication to the Russian market. We work closely with many local actors and assist them as they go from prototyping an idea to making it a commercial reality. Hence, when we prepare for this event, our local teams analyze the list of participants Compel invited to customize our presentations and ensure that the most pertinent leaders from ST are available to answer the questions we know will be coming. For instance, we will not have a dedicated presentation on smart driving, since we know that there is no automaker present and that it’s not a major highlight of the Russian technological landscape at the moment. However, we understand that cloud technologies are increasingly popular and we are planning to tailor our approach to this market specifically.
Indeed, as we talked with Natalia Doronina, Distribution Manager, and Mikhail Chigarev, Business Development Manager, from our Russian office, we learned that it is fundamental to introduce cloud technologies in ways that make sense to the Russian market. On a technical level, it means focusing on specific cellular protocols and sub-gigahertz networks, such as LoRa or 6LoWPAN, which may differ from what is available in Europe or North America. On an application level, it implies shining a spotlight on what utility companies can do to make their operations more efficient as well as improve their users’ experience. Indeed, whereas home automation or consumer technologies may be a driving force for the cloud in other markets, Russia is first using this new computing paradigm through electricity or gas providers, for instance.
Compelfest or Talking to the Russian Audience
ST informs its talks and presentations with its understanding and familiarity of the Russian ecosystem. For example, we partnered with Azure and will offer specialized training sessions with our boards to show how the cloud can transform the operations of utility companies, among others. We can explain how they can more easily deal with the myriad of customers they service, as well as the advantages of smart meters, cloud interfaces, and the responsive interactions that will enable corporations to offer faster and more relevant answers to their clients thanks to our various products. These talks also serve the purpose of showing that beyond our STM32 MCU, we offer a vast array of products that can ensure that engineers and designers have all the parts and software they need to realize the best version of the design they have in mind.
As a result, we will also hold talks on a wide array of topics that are popular among Russian actors, such as our sensors, RF, and power management solutions. We will also have demos showing what they can do with TouchGFX to design efficient and modern graphical user interfaces (GUI) and we will introduce participants to the latest network protocols, such as Bluetooth mesh, which enables the interaction of multiple products that use our BlueNRG SoC into a mesh topology thanks to a simple firmware update. Additionally, we will also show how Russian companies can already start taking advantage of future innovations such as predictive maintenance thanks to vibration analysis through the use of cost-effective capacitive sensors.
Making ST Accessible
Our demos and presentations will thus be an excellent opportunity to reach Russian companies in ways that are almost impossible otherwise. The Russian territory is quite vast, and although our teams make it a priority to remain in contact with our customers to ensure that they get the support they need, an event like Compelfest enables us to start the year by reaching a lot of local talents at once. Whether it is to demo our new wireless fast charger (transmitter and receiver) 15 W fast chargers, or show how any company can start building drones with our STEVAL-DRONE01 kit, Compelfest is a special event because it is the beginning of a fascinating conversation about what we can do when local companies and ST come together around innovation and the next technological revolutions.
